The L.L.Bean Flagship Re-Boot
Our renovation project is underway! And when it’s all done, we’ll still be the L.L.Bean you know and love – with a reimagined flagship store, a more immersive shopping experience, and an expanded green space that will help you enjoy the outdoors even more.
“When my great-grandfather, L.L., opened his first retail space above the Freeport post office in 1917, he never imagined what it would become. But he knew what he wanted it to be. A place that strived to bring customers in, for the purpose of helping them get right back outside.”
Shawn Gorman, L.L.Bean Executive Chairman of the Board

See What the Future Has In Store
We can’t wait to welcome you in – and get you outside.
We’re bringing back our famous fish pond, updated with multiple tiers, more viewpoints, and enhanced accessibility for better fish watching.
Our customer-favorite stream tank is getting a major overhaul, with twice as much swimming space and two big viewing bubbles for fish fans of all ages.
“Our new flagship experience will lead us into the future while honoring our past – with all the trusted products, tried-and-true service, and outdoor passion that has made L.L.Bean a beloved Maine brand for over a century.”

Learn More About the Project
Better experiences outside start with a better experience inside our store. Check out the FAQs below to learn more about the current renovations and exciting future of our Freeport campus.
What to Expect When You Visit
Parking: While some parking will be impacted, please know that many other parking options will remain available on and near the L.L.Bean campus.
Shopping: Getting around L.L.Bean will be a little different during construction, but you’ll find plenty of resources to help you navigate our temporary campus layout. Our store team will be on hand to assist you in locating products that may have moved and directing you to the right buildings. You’ll also find loads of new navigational signage to point you in the right direction.
It’s a unique, immersive shopping experience we’re calling Camp L.L.Bean! We’ll be camping out in this tent – the largest we’ve ever designed – as we complete renovations to bring our reimagined flagship store to life.
The exterior of Camp L.L.Bean will be modeled after our classic Acadia 8-Person Cabin Tent, while the inside will feel just like an L.L.Bean store, complete with fitting rooms and registers. It will also be the home away from home for our Men’s, Women’s, and Kids’ apparel, as well as our Outerwear department.
Our Hunting & Fishing, Bike, Boat and Ski, and Home stores will all remain open during our Flagship Re-Boot project. Some product categories previously housed in our flagship store will be distributed to these stores, as well as Camp L.L.Bean, due to the temporary reduction in selling space. Please visit the individual store pages for updated store hours and product selection.
Yes! We will continue to provide options that make shopping at L.L.Bean easier for every shopper, including curbside pickup and the ability to buy products online and pick them up in-store.
Monogramming services will still be available in any campus store.
As construction ramps up, we’re considering how to adapt and continue to celebrate these important traditions amidst the many changes on campus. Please visit llbean.com/explore and the L.L.Bean Flagship Store Facebook page for information and updates on upcoming events. We’ll be working hard to make these experiences as joyful as ever over the next few years.
The Future of L.L.Bean Flagship
The L.L.Bean Flagship Re-Boot is the reimagining and renovation of our flagship campus – a vision in the works since January 2023. Once construction is complete, the renewed store and campus will offer seamless shopping and immersive new customer experiences in a thoughtfully designed space. As you read this, we’ll be setting out on the final – and most dramatic – phase of this bold, exciting project.
During this time, you can shop for Men’s, Women’s, and Kids’ apparel, plus Outerwear, inside our Camp L.L.Bean tent. Our other campus stores will remain open, temporarily hosting products such as Footwear, Camping and Hiking, Travel, and more.
We look forward to welcoming you to our incredible new space, slated for a grand reopening in late 2026.
We’re honoring our customers’ fond memories of the current store by creating a space that will feel true to heritage, using natural materials and elements that tie into the existing wood structure. Visitors will be treated to a more engaging, immersive retail experience that retains (and enhances) many of the features they know and love, including a bigger, more accessible stream tank, a new multi-tier trout pond, an expanded in-store café, and more than a few great surprises.
The design is all about creating a better overall experience for customers – and bringing our brand to life by creating a gateway that inspires and enables every visitor to experience the wonders and benefits of being outdoors.
The store has undergone many expansions and updates since our founder opened his first retail space above the Freeport post office in 1917. Unfortunately, this original structure no longer exists. The final design of the building is intended to highlight our history and heritage, with archival items and interactive moments that tell the story of our company’s history.
As longtime stewards of the outdoors and lovers of natural spaces, our redesign is grounded in more sustainable design decisions – from choosing greener building materials to finding new homes for fixtures and elements we no longer need. We will also be incorporating high-efficiency heating and cooling that reduces our overall energy consumption.
