1. Mason Jar Pancakes

A classic camp breakfast with a twist: prep in a mason jar, so kids can help shake it up! This recipe makes about 8 4-inch pancakes.

INGREDIENTS

1¼ cups all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons sugar

2 teaspoons baking powder

½ teaspoon salt

1 beaten egg

1 cup milk

1 tablespoon oil

DIRECTIONS

1. Add flour, sugar, baking powder and salt to 1-quart mason jar

2. Kid step: Shake up the dry ingredients until they’re combined!

3. Mix egg, milk and oil, and pour into mason jar.

4. Kid step: Shake the jar again, until ingredients are combined and lumpy.

5. Pour the batter onto an oiled skillet warmed over medium heat, ¼ cup per pancake. Flip when the pancake surface is bubbly and the edges are firm. Cook until golden brown.

6. Serve with butter and maple syrup.

2. French Bread Pizza

Pick your own toppings and grill a campfire version of a kid (and adult) favorite.

INGREDIENTS

French bread loaves

Pizza sauce

Shredded mozzarella

Pizza toppings

DIRECTIONS

1. Slice the French bread loaves in half length-wise, then into smaller “pizzas.”

2. Spread pizza sauce on the sliced side of the bread. Cover sauce with mozzarella cheese.

3. Kid step: Add your favorite toppings!

4. Place the bread on a grate over medium heat and warm until bread is toasted and cheese is melted.

3. Campfire Fruit and Veggie Skewers

Colorful and healthy, with that yummy just-roasted taste. Easy to make vegan or vegetarian!

INGREDIENTS

Fruit and veggies (cut into chunks)

DIRECTIONS

1. Kid step: Pick out your favorite fruits and veggies for your skewer.

2. Place skewers on the grate and cook until done, turning regularly. Or, if your skewers are long enough, cook over the fire like marshmallows!

4. Foil Fun Packs

Prep these at home and unwrap a surprise meal at the campsite.

INGREDIENTS

Meat, fruit and veggies (cut into chunks)

Salt and pepper

Oil

DIRECTIONS

1. Kid step: Separate the meat, fruit and veggies into 1 cup servings.

2. Place each serving in foil. Drizzle with oil and seasonings and wrap tightly.

3. At the campsite, place packets over the fire until meat is cooked through.

4. Kid step: Pick a packet! Unwrap your surprise meal and enjoy.

5. Banana Boats

A sweet, gooey treat that’s part s’more, part banana split and all delicious.

INGREDIENTS

Bananas

Sweet fillings (marshmallows, chocolate, strawberries, nuts)

DIRECTIONS

1. Slice into banana lengthwise (but not all the way through).

2. Kid step: Stuff the split banana with fillings.

3. Wrap in foil and place over medium heat. Cook until banana is warm and fillings are melted.

4. Unwrap and eat out of the peel with a spoon.

6. Popcorn

The classic after-dinner salty snack! ½ cup of kernels will make popcorn for about four people.

INGREDIENTS

Popcorn kernels

Oil (2 tbsp per ½ cup of kernels)

Salt

DIRECTIONS

1. Add oil and popcorn to a heavy-bottomed pot, and shake to coat kernels.

2. Cover the pot with a lid or foil, leaving a small crack for steam to escape.

3. Place the pot on the fire over medium heat.

4. Once popping starts, continually shake the pot over the heat.

5. Kid step: Listen to the pops! Once they slow to a few seconds between pops, the popcorn is done.

6. Pour popcorn into a bowl and season with salt.
